Introducing: The Saigon Top 10

After receiving several requests for food recommendations from readers traveling to Vietnam, I decided to compile a Top 10 list of must-try delicacies. Narrowing the field of Vietnamese favorites down to 10 was an arduous task, but I think I’ve captured the flavors, essense and energy of Saigon’s unrivaled food scene with my picks. The Saigon Top 10 list will live in the orange tab at the top of the site for easy access. The Hanoi one should be up in the coming days. Happy travels and Bon Appétit!

  1. Hi, I found your blog on this new directory of WordPress Blogs at blackhatbootcamp.com/listofwordpressblogs. I dont know how your blog came up, must have been a typo, i duno. Anyways, I just clicked it and here I am. Your blog looks good. Have a nice day. James.

  2. Those are certainly delicious dishes.

If you have time, maybe a page of Top Ten eats that are uniquely Vietnamese, even though they may not taste as appealing to the universal crowd.

I definitely think Cá Kho Tộ and Bánh Mì Thịt Nguội would be repeated on this list. Other things I think that are very Vietnamese are Bánh Chưng, Gỏi or Bì Cuốn, Xôi, Thịt Kho Nước Dừa, and all those strange drinks, especially the one that has fruit, nuts, and seaweed.

BTW, I’ve been making about one Vietnamese dish a week. Your blog and some other links have gotten the juices flowing. Although I would rather go to restaurants for Vietnamese food, there are none here save a couple that only sell Phở. The Net is flooded with recipes, too. It’s been great.

  3. Yes!!! Thanks so much for the list. We are only four weeks away from our honeymoon in VN. Planning to try and knock off as many of your Top 10 as possible.

  4. Good job! I sent your website link to many friends of mine. They always ask me the same when they travel to VN. Now, besides mine, they have more options 🙂
    btw, howya doin?

  5. Boots – Who has two thumbs and is going to be mighty jealous if you return to Vietnam? This girl. Still, I hope Mr. Boots agrees to the trip!

James – I’m not sure if you’re spam or real, but if you’re real, thanks.

Nina – Me too. Wish we could crab shack it again.

Angela – It would be really difficult to make a list of 10 uniquely Vietnamese foods because the cuisine is heavily influenced by neighboring countries like China, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, etc. Wandering Chopsticks recently made a list of 100 Vietnamese foods to eat before you die that you should definitely check out. And good to hear that you’ve been cooking up a Vietnamese storm!! The Astronomer recently made a big pot of bo kho for his family in Alabama 🙂

Jacob – Congrats again, and let me know how many items you cross off the list. The Hanoi one will hopefully be up this week.

Angela – Thanks for sharing the link with your pals, and I’m doing well. Thank you for asking. If I can’t be in Saigon, So Cal is definitely the next best thing.
