Postcards from the Road: People’s Republic of China, Better Late than Censored

Postcard from Chengdu

Postcard from Shanghai

Postcard from Chengdu

Postcard from Tokyo

I meant to “send” these postcards while on the road last week, but alas, the Chinese government kept me from doing so. Censorship is certainly a pain, but a small price to pay for getting to cuddle up next to giant pandas and gorge on mind-blowingly great food. I got the better end of the deal, I’d say.

Still, it’s good to be back on freedom’s soil.

  1. Hi Cathy,

Devoted reader to this blog here, I mostly lurk though!

I can’t believe you were in China? What for? I’m currently studying abroad in Beijing right now (after a trip to Vietnam)! Using your trip from 2008 as a guide for where/what I should eat! 🙂

  2. Hi, Tuong! Thanks for reading and unlurking! We were in China for pure pleasure. We saw a good bit of the land in 2008 and were hungry to return for more. Posts to come about Chengdu and Shanghai. I hope you’re enjoying Beijing!

  3. I was wondering why there weren’t any mouthwatering photos of XLB and the like on Instagram… now I know! Welcome back! 😀

  4. Looking forward to those posts! I finally got around to trying the yogurt drink in a clay(?) cup and it was delicious. Reminds me of the yogurt from Vietnam! 🙂 Also, after seeing the swoon post on the Lay’s Spicy Green Peppercorn Fish Flavor potato chips, I headed right to the convenience store on campus and grabbed some! They were delicious!
